Two Iranian directors have been named in the list of the best 25 filmmakers of the 21st century by Metacritic website.

Metacritic has named prominent Iranian filmmakers Asghar Farhadi and Abbas Kiarostami among the best 25 filmmakers of the century so far.

The 25 directors in the list received the best reviews from professional critics from 2000 to July 7, 2017.

Abbas Kiarostami, who died in July 2016, was an Iranian film director, whose ‘Taste of Cherry’ grabbed the Palme d’Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

Farhadi, born in 1972, is an Iranian film director and screenwriter. Among other awards, he has received a Golden Globe Award as well as two Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 and 2017.

He was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world by Time magazine in 2012.

Metacritic is a website that aggregates reviews of media products: music albums, video games, films and TV shows. For each product, the score from each review is averaged and are called ‘metascores’.
